The festival of lights is just around the corner and there is much excitement that can be felt in the air. The word ‘Diwali’ means a row of Lights. It is a time filled with light and love; a time when Indians all over the world celebrate the victory of good over evil. In some regions Diwali commemorates Lord Rama’s victorious return to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile ,while here in Goa it marks the triumph of Lord Krishna over Narkasura the demon. It is also a celebration of Goddess Laxmi ,who bestows wealth and good fortune. This year to mark this beautiful festival the students of Class 1 conducted a special assembly. It commenced with the portrayal of the story of Lord Rama and his victory over Ravana through an aptly conducted skit . The happiness was shared with two dance performances namely ‘Goomar’ and ‘Happy Diwali’ by the students which added much cheer. A wonderful rendition of ‘Deepavali Manaye Suhani ‘ by the singers of Class 1 . It was also followed by another enactment by the students displaying the Diwali celebrations in Goa .It provided a glimpse into the traditions followed by Goan Hindus for Diwali. The Diwali assembly ended with the momentous dance of the Narkasura and it’s defeat. The assembly was enjoyed thoroughly by all and greetings of Happy Diwali could be heard throughout the primary section .On this joyous occasion of Diwali, we wish you new beginnings, new hopes, and new kinds of happiness. Wishing each one of you a Happy Diwali!
