Every monsoon the Sao Joao feast is celebrated with grandeur and gaiety.
It is dedicated to St. John the Baptist and is celebrated on June 24th as Sao Joao feast in Goa. The festival celebrations include villagers jumping into the wells, streams and ponds. This jump is to signify the joy that St. John felt when Jesus was born. During monsoons this event is the major attraction for tourists.
A very popular tradition is the wearing of the Kopel or flower crown during this festival. With the monsoons underway, flowers can be found blooming everywhere. These are taken, woven together in an intricate arrangement with leaves and worn throughout the day’s festivities.
Students of the primary section ( class 1 to 4) made different types of kopels to celebrate this traditional festival.
